A WEEKEND AWAY FROM THE CITY

by - August 10, 2017

I'm not quite sure why it has taken me so long to write this post, August is already here and I'm just now bringing this trip to the blog, this getaway took place the first weekend of July.

Some friends and I went away for a quick weekend getaway for my best friend's birthday back in July. We are usually planning many trips that don't always come to live, but for some reason, we are always able to get away for her birthday. Frankly, I think is the time of the year we look forward to since we all know something is meant to happen. The trip was overall a good trip, we drove down to Connecticut Saturday morning and spend the day at Brownstone Adventure Park, went out to dinner at Red Lobster and spend the night at the Sheraton Hartford South Hotel and can I say how comfortable the beds in this hotel were.

Brownstone Park
If you are the type to jump off a cliff, into the adrenaline you get from crazy activities, love the heights, adventure, love the water, this is the park for you. I'm not the type to do all of those adventure things, but I'm also not the type to miss out on the fun because I'm too scared. I put my big girl panties on and go for it. I will go back to this park over and over again, can I just say I loved it! Because of this experience, I was able to remove yet again one more thing off my bucket list- zip-lining. I have always wanted to do Zip-linning and the opportunity pretty much came to me.

Bathing: Missguided

We arrived at the park around 11 am (if my memory is correct), the minute we settled in we jumped in the water. This park had so many beautiful views and it's definitely a good time. The park has water toys, cliff jumping, wakeboarding, rock climbing, zip lines and more. The first thing we tried was the water toys (this was an exercise), then we swam our way to the first zip line (I can't swim btw, so it took me about 30 mins to make my way there). The first zip line we tried was one of the "small ones" I say it because this park has around 5 zip lines and some are higher than the others. After the zip line, it was time for food, the park has a small food area, but you are also able to bring your own food if you like. After some well-needed food, relaxed time, we made our way back to the water, this time to swim and take part in more water toys. I'm not the type to jump off a cliff, so I watched everyone do it as I stayed in the water (heights are not really my thing).

While everyone else tried many of the different activities the park has to offer, I continued to stay in the water until it was time for our second zip line (this one is the tallest one the park has to offer). We made our way up and waiting in line for our turn (I recommend you take water shoes for this walk). I would be lying if I don't say I almost peed on myself the second I saw how high this jump was going to be-yes I know, you are all trapped in and all that, but like I mentioned before I'm not really into heights so this was definitely a first for me, but so worth it. After this I was beat for the day, so a bit more of water and some snacks and we ended up wrapping up our stuff and making our way to the hotel. By the time we left the park it was around 5 pm.

Sheraton Hartford Hotel
The hotel was 5 minutes from the park so the ride there was a blink of an eye, we checked in an imminently made our way to the pool area. There was also a hot tub which was my first stop as I needed some relaxation from such a long day. after an hour or so in the pool it was time to get ready for dinner.

Red Lobster
I've mentioned before how there is no Red Lobster in Boston, our closets one is, in fact, is the one in Connecticut. Since seafood is my obsession I was over the moon when this was the place we decided to grab dinner from. I am also a foodie so I ended up getting the ultimate feast once again because they just don't disappoint. After dinner, it was time for the turn-up- which I ended passing on since I fell asleep right after dinner.

If you are in the area during the summer time and is looking for a great time I highlight recommend this adventure park. It is not your average water park and it has so much to offer at such an affordable price. Because it was my first time going I passed on a lot of the activities the park has to offer, but I'm definitely looking forward next summer to stop by again and try everything else I didn't try this time around.
